Yema is a three track EP coming to us all the way from Toronto, Canada. Released on Provoke Records this is Damn Kids second official release. I had never heard of Damn Kids before today but was taken aback by his serious knack for producing an insanely unique tribal house. He keeps it super minimal but uses very ethnic samples the entire EP and keeps all three tracks teeter tottering between the tech house and deephouse genres brilliantly.
The title track is driven by tribal drum patterns and a dense underlying bass-line…while very minimal, the vocals and heavy bass will get you moving. Totem still carries the same tribal drums and bass line, but layers on more elements of percussion throughout. The third and final track is definitely the darkest and most minimal. Buti is a collaborative effort from Damn Kids and Caruzo that really brings this EP into the minimal house realm with its sparse instrumentation.
Damn Kids is a producer with a passion worth watching grow. His career is young, and his list of achievements is short, but he has found something that takes other artists decades to develop; a sound of his own. I cant wait to see whats next for this kid. Make sure to support Damn Kids and head on over to Beatport for the EP.
