I feel this post and every one to follow is coming as a necessity. We had a weekly mix that we used to do that we seem to have forgotten about so here I am here to reinstate it. Basically what this will be is a weekly re-cap of all our favorite tracks of the week, of any genre, new releases and the occasional re-discovered gem. This week’s mix will be a collection of tracks from the past couple of weeks. Most noteworthy tracks are the three of my favorite songs off Random Access Memories, Baauer‘s remix of Disclosure‘s “You & Me, ” and this catchy CHVRCHES‘ remix of MS MR‘s track “Hurricane.” So without further ado, I present you Volume I of our Weekly Mix.
Daft Punk - Instant Crush (feat. Julian Casablancas)
So I’ve been rather busy and haven’t been posting as consistently as I would’ve liked, henceforth this little recap post. I’m not gonna go into detail on all the songs featured; everything is just a collection of my pick’s from the past week or so. Most notable are: 1) Lana‘s “Young and Beautiful” off the upcoming Great Gatsby soundtrack 2) New Empire of the Sun!!! 3) Disclosure‘s latest featuring Eliza Doolittle 4) “24k” feat. A$AP Rocky which samples one of my favorite songs of all time 5) TNGHT‘s latest banger, “Acrylics” which I was fortunate enough to see live this past weekend at Coachella, and lastly 6) My favorite song offKid Cudi‘s recently released album Indicud (out now on iTunes) featuring the lovely Haimsisters.
I love me some Opiuo. I don’t think we’ve featured him before but it’s never too late to get introduced. Opiou is a one man electronic wrecking machine hailing from Melbourne, Australia. If you like The Glitch Mob, Gramatik, or the sounds of C2C, you’re going to love this dude. He is an absolute magician when it comes to producing and remixing songs into full fledged electro-glitch-funk bangers. I’ve yet to hear anything he’s touched that I didn’t love, and his latest remix of DangerDoom‘s “Benzie Box” is no different. MF Doom‘s lyrical genius is abundantly apparent, as with anything the masked man & DangerMouse lay down together, but Opiuo just brings it up another level. Cop this one for free and be sure to check out the rest of Op’s track library via his Soundcloud. I’ve included a few of my personal fav’s below.
Schoolboy Q is known for his grimey but fresh and exciting beats. He gives us just that in his first single off his debut album with Interscope Records coming soon. Keep your eye out for more Black Hippy. Enjoy.
Okay so this isn’t exactly a cover, but I mean, it basically is. We all know 50 Cent’s “Wanksta” and this is kind of a play on that. This one took me by surprise a little bit but it actually turned out real as hell from Kat Dahlia a.k.a. rap game the Cuban Katy Perry. ”Gangsta” is the first single off her short little 3-piece EP of the same name and I gotta say, this song has some major potential. Keep a look-out for this name in coming months.
If you’re looking for some raw funk, you’ve come to the right place. Gramatik continues to impress, as part of a very cool music project with Eric Mendelson, Drastiq, Buffalo Analog, and Illumntr. This is Extraordinary Magnitude’s first track together ever, and it comes to us for free off their upcoming album Proportions. I am digging this track and I hope you do too.
I’ve been listening to this song quite a bit and I’m stoked to share it with you all. Carrying good vibes from start to finish, Mike Posner completely nailed this one. Everything from the vocals to the beats are perfect. Enjoy and grab yourself a free download.
Mike Posner - The A Team (Remix) (produced by Mike Posner)
Ooh how I’ve missed this. Finally some new The Weeknd. Abel teams up with Ricky Hil (son of Tommy Hillfiger) for their latest collab, “Nomads.” Ricky Hil just released his debut album SYLDD which is available for free download via Noisey.
