Weekly Mix Vol. I

I feel this post and every one to follow is coming as a necessity. We had a weekly mix that we used to do that we seem to have forgotten about so here I am here to reinstate it. Basically what this will be is a weekly re-cap of all our favorite tracks of the week, of any genre, new releases and the occasional re-discovered gem. This week’s mix will be a collection of tracks from the past couple of weeks. Most noteworthy tracks are the three of my favorite songs off Random Access Memories, Baauer‘s remix of Disclosure‘s “You & Me, ” and this catchy CHVRCHES‘ remix of MS MR‘s track “Hurricane.” So without further ado, I present you Volume I of our Weekly Mix.

Treasure Fingers at Soho (May 9)

The purveyor of feel good house music and funk connoisseur Treasure Fingers will be performing in Santa Barbara at Soho night club this upcoming Thursday (May 9). Once again we will be giving away free tickets, courtesy of our friends over at Ctrl+Alt+Delight. If you participated in our last giveaway, you know the deal. Cover Friday: Daft Punk – Random Access Memories + Get Lucky (Daughter + Vanderway Edit)

I realize we just posted a cover of this last Cover Friday, however, seeing as “Get Lucky” has been by far the biggest track of the past month or so, it shouldn’t be too surprising so many other dope covers/remixes/edits have been surfacing. Although I’m not sure you can call this first one a cover from Vanderway, it’s really more of a remix/edit with added vocals, I’m posting it anyways ’cause it’s that good. Daughter‘s cover has been blowing up since she performed it for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge last week. Personally, I’m still not convinced about it but I figured I’d post it anyways. Entirely different than the original (literally the complete opposite of what the song was intended to be) but still retains an endearing quality about it somehow. Listen/download both below.

I’ve decided this morning to bring out something from the archives from like 2009 that I am willing to bet probably 75% of you have never heard and about 99% of you have forgotten about. It has been a favorite of mine throughout the years and I just realized I’ve never shared it on OHD before. DiscoTech boys – at the time known for their crunchy AF synths, heavy drum samples and an impeccable to remix just about anything, including T.I.. There’s no doubt in my mind this is gonna be refreshing for a lot of you so turn it up!!! LET’S GO

Savant – Carmageddon 2013

Savant is absolutely incredible. The rate at which this guy produces music is absolutely obsurd – and what’s more is that 9 times out of 10, its all GOLD. How Aleksander Vitner does it, I will never know. But I promise you I’m not complaining. This track took me by surprise the first time I heard it and I’ve been coming back over and over. Reminding me a little bit Overwerk, Shreddie Mercury and maybe a little Tommy Trash – he’s built an stellar electro track with all the cut-up, grittiness we all know and love. Enjoy yo.

Cover Friday: Sam Sparro – Get Lucky

Here’s an awesome cover of Daft Punk‘s recently released “Get Lucky” from an old favorite of mine, Sam Sparro. If anyone was to cover this song, I’m happy it was him. One could argue this is an even better version – not what he re-arranged technically on Daft Punk’s part but I personally prefer his vocals over Pharrell’s (no offense P).

Michael Jackson – Speed Demon (Nero Remix)

I feel like this track literally came out of the blue… I mean a Michael Jackson remix? Why now??? (Apparently it’s old – like 6 months – but I, obviously missed it) Either way, I’m definitely not complaining because I’ve always been a fan of MJ’s and to have Nero remix him into a flashy, 80s throwback dub electro track is like finding a diamond ring in the sand at the beach. I haven’t felt so amped off a track like this in a long time – refreshing, in your face, loud and soooo catchy.
