James Blake – Retrograde

James Blake is simply one of the best in the biz.  “Retrograde” is his latest masterpiece – off his upcoming follow up album Overgrown (out April 8th via Republic).  The production value in everything he does is just stunning and this one is no different.  It’s been a while since his last release and I can’t stress how pumped I am he’s back at it.

Purity Ring – Grammy

Purity Ring covering Soulja Boi? Um… what?  This is actually incredibly catchy and probably my favorite song of the week thus far.  This is the first I’ve heard from Purity Ring since the release of their album back in July, and I am very much into it.  Released in correspondence with the Grammy’s, “Grammy” (originally from Soulja Boi) is, in a nutshell, a song questioning the basis of the Grammy’s and why they (Purity Ring in this case) didn’t win anything.  I 100% agree – Shrines should have won or at least been nominated for Best Dance/Electronica album in my honest opinion.  I don’t pay into a lot of what the Grammy’s stand for (although this year was a bit different and a real improvement from recent year’s past i.m.o.) but it’s still heavily biased and so much incredible music goes unnoticed.  I do honestly feel Purity Ring are at a place where they should be getting noticed on a bigger scale for what they did this past year.  The music industry is ever-changing though so who knows, maybe 2013 will be their year.  I can’t wait to see what they do.

Olly Murs – Army of Two (Kat Krazy Remix)

Olly Murs - Army of Two (Kat Krazy Remix)

Kat Krazy, the UK mastermind who slayed Bastille’s “Pompeii” track with a dirty dubstep/electro remix just a couple weeks ago has done it yet again with his stunning remix of Olly Murs‘ “Army of Two.” Talk about a dancefloor banger; this electro track, heavily led by Olly Murs’ vocals, lit up by Kat Krazy‘s shimmering synths and drops is the perfect dance track for your Friday night set.

Tim McMorris – Overwhelmed (Robotic Pirate Monkey Remix)

If you’ve watched T.V. any time within the past couple months, there’s a good chance you’ve seen this Samuel Adams commercial.  I immediately took a liking to the original song featured in it so I did a little research and found out what the song was called and also came across this chill remix from Robotic Pirate Monkey.  I really haven’t heard a lot from RPM recently, maybe I just haven’t been paying attention, but this remix has suddenly re-ignited my interest in them.  They have a lot of similarly quality stuff on their Soundcloud that if you’re like me, I suggest you re-discover, or if you haven’t heard of them, here’s a cool new group for you to check out.

Kavinsky vs. Dada Life – Nightcall To Your Boyfriend (Case & Point Mashup)

Nightcall To Your Boyfriend (Case & Point Mashup) - Kavinsky vs. Dada Life

No wait. This right now is exactly what I needed. Case & Point shamelessly mashing Kavinsky, Dada Life, and what is that… Justin Bieber into one massive electro-house mashup guaranteed to get your shi* moving. This track is absolutely massive and a must-have for any good dj’s library. I always hear people talking about the decline of mashups and the focus that upcoming artists have on creating/producing their own sound but I think that something must be said for an artist to be able to mash songs together and create an incredible sound like this one. Case & Point have nailed it. Enjoy!

Daft Punk – Make Love (HLM Remix)

Make Love (HLM Remix) - Daft Punk

Back when HLM did his version of Kaskade’s “Lesson’s In Love,” I was immediately struck by his ability to produce incredibly unique remixes. Taking even the most popular of songs,  shifting them, morphing them and pushing them into a sound that was uniquely HLM without destroying the greatness of the original. Believe it or not, he’s done it yet again; taking Daft Punk’s “Make Love” and building it into an amazing house track for all of us to enjoy yet again. It’s up for free on his Soundcloud, so go grab it!!!

Laura Mvula – Green Garden (Monsieur Adi Remix)

What more is there to say about Monsieur Adi that we haven’t already said?  The dude just knows how to remix a song that’s all there is to it.  Here’s his latest of Laura Mvulas “Green Garden,” who I suggest you also check out.  She’s a real talented up and coming vocalist from Birmingham, England.  Keep an eye out for her debut studio album Sing To The Moon - out March 4.

Adele – Rumor Has It (ID Crysis Remix)

rumor has it id crysis remix

This remix by Italian native Bobby Brown, AKA ID Crysis sent me his trap rendition of Adele’s Rumor Has It. His take on the jaded original by Adele took it to a completely unexpectedly crisp and simple yet filthy level. I found myself coming back to this track to listen again and again. With haunting vocal background loops and some heavy horns, this track delivers. Enjoy.
