Tromp – Labrat

Just got home from a night in the trees, stuck my noise-canceling headphones in, and stumbled upon this gem.  We’ve mentioned Labrat before here, but I really think he deserves more attention.  Put your headphones on, lay back, relax and let the music speak for itself.

A$AP Rocky – Long Live A$AP (Video)

As many of you all know, ASAP‘s long awaited album Long Live A$AP is soon to be released (expected release date January 15) and in the build up, the ASAP crew has just recently put out the music video for album’s headlining song of the same title.  Unfortunately, as you would expect with an album of such allure and prestige, people have somehow found a way to leak it, which is good for us! bad for the ASAP mob.  I’m not gonna post the leak because that would not be very supportive of me but look forward to a full length album review (by yours truly) come post the official release date.  Until then, stream the single and its video below.

Who (Original Mix) – Tujamo & Plastik Funk

I’ve been wanting to share this filthy track by Tujamo & Plastik Funk for a loooong time. I’ve heard it in many mixes from all the big names – it’s been dropped in countless sets worldwide and has become that song that everyone gets buck to but no one knows what it is or who it’s by. So, as a matter of fact, I’m brining it to you exclusively :) Wait til you hear the filthy beats dropped by this inconspicuous duo. Let it get past the 1:15 mark to get your grind on – give it up for WHO!!!!!!!

The Last Bison – Switzerland

The Last Bison are a band you may or may not be familiar with – which I say only because I am just now hearing of them but they’ve actually been around for a few years now.  Since the mega-following Mumford & Sons has gained, in turn has my appreciation of the modern day folk genre.  Bands like The Lumineers and Fleet Foxes also fall into that same category.  Similar to these artists, The Last Bison have stood out to me because of the way they’ve hybridized their sound, bringing together the traditional sensibilities of folk music as well as a sort of classical variation in the way it comes together.  “Switzerland” is the first song off their latest Inheritance EP which was released back in October (available for purchase via iTunes) and is also my favorite.  Check it out and be sure to follow/like their pages via the links below.

Hardwell Ft. Amba Shepherd – Apollo (PINEO Remix)

I heard Hardwell drop the original live on New Years at White Wonderland and it was a definite crowd pleaser. Out of all the Apollo remixes already out in the EDM scene right now, I have to say 20 year old electro-house DJ/producer PINEO really took the gold with his remix. The majority of the track keeps it’s originality, but PINEO was able to spice up the song a bit with some progressive electro-house synths. Not to say the original needed any sort of change, it’s just nice to hear something different and good. Enjoy.

Blake’s Best of 2012 – My Top Picks

It’s always tough coming up with a list of “Top Songs” of the year, mainly because I find it hard to find what I should base my list off of.  What I finally ended up putting together is essentially a collection of songs that for one, I feel have had a big impact this year and are truly worthy of being on a “Top Songs of 2012″ list, and secondly, are songs that for whatever reason have made it onto my personal “Most Played” list and “Favorites” list, which usually consists of songs that overall just make me happy, songs I like to relax to, songs I like to rage to, and songs that remind me of a time in my life.  A$AP‘s “Goldie” is far and away my favorite track of 2012 (AND IT MUST BEEEEEE) for a number of reasons but mainly because every time I hear it, as soon as I hit play it just puts me and everyone else in the room in a good mood.  In the breakout year of trap music, and in terms of the downright slappers the year has brought out, TNGHT‘s “Higher Ground” is just so badass and so different from anything I’ve heard that it’s gotta be in there.  Anything Lana Del Rey is on my list but if I had to choose, “Born To Die” is my favorite song of her’s this year (not to mention the chillest music video of the year).  Same goes for Frank Ocean.  I loved Channel Orange, but again, if I had to choose, “Lost” would have to be my pick off the album.  The rest are tracks that just stood out for me – whether it be lyrically, just pure catchy-ness of the song, or even more importantly, the memories I’ve made and accompanied with certain songs that now every I hear them, I will be reminded of what I was doing in my life at that certain point in time.  So, after much thought and many hours spent refreshing myself on what the year has produced, here are my official Top Tracks of 2012.  Enjoy.
