Wide Awake – Katy Perry (Jump Smok...

Summer officially arrived this week, and slapped me right across the face. Been hearing so many new original tracks, mashups, and remixes in the last few days; it is insane. This recently released track, takes Katy Perry’s song Wide Awake, and throws that “summers is here” spin on it. Right from the start I knew this was going to be one I would enjoy; so I hope you all do as well. Jump Smokers are fairly big already; especially in the Chicago area, from which the originated. However, they are more or less new to me. I really like how they subtly enhanced the song without taking too much away. Yet they added enough to set it appart from the original; which is something I really admire. I am going to keep a close eye on them over summer. I know all you Katy Perry fans will love this one!

ENJOY.

I will always have a soft spot for indie remixes and honestly, this is one of the best electronic remixes of an indie song I’ve heard in a while.  Fucking spot on remix from Gazzo of Y LUV‘s “Never Touch The Ground.”  This truly has all the pieces of a great remix.  He replaces the guitar riffs with pulsating house beats leading up to euphoric climaxes throughout while still keeping part of the original in tact.  Awesome remix overall for me.

Unicorn Kid – Pure Space

COMPLETELY spaced on posting this one,  don’t really know how.  Unicorn Kid released it right at the back end of last month accompanied by this dope little music video (see below).  For those of you who enjoyed the last seapunk post, this one’s right up that alley.  It’s the latest from the Scottish native; rumored to be the first single off his upcoming album which is due ’round the back end of this year.  I personally cannot wait.

Sound Remedy – Neapolitan Dreams +...

I usually leave the dubstep posts to someone else but there’s something about these two remixes from LA based producer Sound Remedy that I grabbed my attention.  It’s probably because I enjoy the originals so much, which is usually the case with remixes anyway, but I particularly enjoyed the spin he laid down on these two.   The first one is a remix of Lisa Mitchell‘s incredibly catchy “Neapolitan Dreams” and the second is of KO KO‘s “Float” which I just so happened to post the original of a couple days ago.

Body Work (Misha K remix) – Morgan...

Since we last featured Misha K over here at OHD hes really been making some big waves within the progressive house world. His original track, Twenty Four was recently featured on Ministry of Sound TV (check that track out after the break) which is HUGE for any producer. His latest track comes to us via the Morgan Page Body Work Remix Contest on BeatportThe original was great, but with added paino work and uplifting synths, Misha K definitely has a winner on his hands. Make sure to support Misha K and head over to Beatport and VOTE NOW. Voting ends on the 21st of this month so dont forget!!

Yeasayer – Henrietta

Brand new one from Yeasayer.  It’s been two years but it seems as though they’re finally ready to follow up their 2010 album Odd Blood.  They’ve been sending out CD’s of their new song “Henrietta” to everyone on their mailing list.  Kinda disappointed I wasn’t on it but, this is the modern age and I knew I was bound to find a stream of it floating around somewhere.  I don’t know what it is about this one but whatever it is keeps dragging me in over and over again.

Amplify//550 – Shogun

Armada Music has been the driving force for trance music since 2003 and it continues to lead the movement even further nine years later. Shogun recently released two tracks on the label that really stand out and tell us that trance is here to stay. Its always so amazing to see the evolution of electronic music in the states over the years. Just looking back at the older EDC line ups it was all trance DJs until a few years back. Trance has a special place in my heart and i think you might find room somewhere in there for these two tracks as well. Shogun’s 550 is and ode to the A State Of Trance 550 tour and almost won him the Anthem Competition this year. As always, Shogun provides us with tracks fueled with warm beats, blue-sky melodies and tons of energy. Enjoy.

Ta-ku – Higher (Flume Remix)

Track of the week right here for me.  Fresh as f*ck remix from the one and only Aussie producer, Flume.  Ta-ku‘s original of the song is amazing in it’s own right but the little something extra Flume throws on it just makes it that much more enjoyable for me.  Literally on repeat for days.  If you haven’t already heard of him I highly suggest you check out some of his other ish via his Soundcloud and be sure to show him some love by liking his FB page.

Wake Up – Acid Girls ft. Frankmusi...

HEY, woke up in a great mood today! So along with that, I had to share the song that is getting me through today.  This one is coming to you guys a little late; but better late than never. The original track Wake Up by Acid Girls and FrankMusik was an amazing song already, but the Meterhead remix is one that cannot be missed. It has got that nice buildup, to then drop right into a pop-like jam. Gotta love that summer vibe that both the original, and the remixed track give off. Meterhead has been around a while now, and though not nearly as well know as some of the other remix artists out there, this song definitely opened my eyes to what he is capable of. Keep an eye out for more from Meterhead in the future. In the mean time enjoy these.

Have a great day!

Unashamed Desire (4FRNT Remix) – M...

[dropcap]I[/dropcap] didn’t really know what to do because I really need to / want to post up my normal Tuesday Mix-up but I came across this track in the process (it was dropped right as I was going to bed last night) and just spent the time listening to it a couple times.. If you’re unfamiliar with who 4FRNT is, here’s a chance for you to get familiar. 4FRNT‘s remix of Somebody That I Used to Know has received over 95k plays on SoundCloud and over 3.5 MILLION on YouTube and has been the top downloaded track on OHD for months and counting since we featured it (free download – HERE).

Now they’ve done it again. This track takes Missy Higgin‘s track Unashamed Desire and gives it a new dance/chill-step/dubstep feel that is one to remember. It’s got a couple AMAZING builds and a drop to blow your panties off – all while keeping true to the original track. Ps. Wait for the drop around 5 minutes out – ohhh yesss.. 4FRNT‘s ability to rework tracks and remix them in a way that holds true to original melodies and feel of a song yet bring an unbelievable dance / dubstep / electro-house vibe into them is what makes them unique. Indie-Hop Shuffle

This week I decided I’d change it up once again.  Most of you come here for our electronic selection of music we provide, which is great  BUT, we are looking to expand as a music blog.  In doing so, expansion calls for a wider range  and variety of different types of music, which if you’ve been keeping up with my last few posts, is what I’ve been aiming to do.  For today’s post, I put together a bunch of random indie tracks (some electronic) and a few hip-hop tracks that have found their way into my music library and I’ve been listening to lately.  A few of these have just been released and others are a little older but weren’t up on the blog yet so I figured I’d post ‘em up anyways.   I decided to combine them all into one for this week but look for each (Hip-Hop + Indie) to start becoming a separate weekly feature.

1. Dieter Schaaf – Biochemistry

2. Flight Facilities – With You feat. Grovesnor

3. KO KO – Float

4. Tim & Jean – Afrika

5. Midi Matilda – Day Dreams

Miike Snow – The Wave (Thomas Gold Remix...

Today, Thomas Gold released his remix of The Wave, an outstanding track from Miike Snow’s new album Happy to You. Gold takes us through a wild ride with heavy hitting synths, a suspenseful build up, and some amazing vocals. By far one of the best remixes I’ve heard of any track off of Happy to You. Make sure to grab the single on beatport.

Don’t Slam The Cinema (Zedd Mashup...

It is finally REALLY starting to feel like summer, and I for one am ready for it. This tasty little mashup by Zedd is just the thing to start off this week. Just knowing that Zedd and Skrillex are playing on the same track just gives me the chills, in a good way. It definitely took me a few plays to finally get me drawn in. However with a closer listen, I feel it is very well done and it will more than likely get stuck on repeat for a while. With no further adue ladies and gentleman. Press play.
