For those of you who don’t know, Treasure Island Music Festival is an annual two day musical extravaganza that takes place on Treasure Island in San Francisco. Boasting one of the most scenic venues in the world with some of the most unique and diverse artists of the underground, indie, and hip-hop scene, this is one festival that you don’t wanna miss. The wide exhibition of musical variety and talent is what impresses me most about T.I. as well as the fact that they have it set up in a way where you have no overlapping sets which means you get to see EVERYONE. Usually schedules get released and I get super pissed that I’m gonna be missing a bunch of artists I wanted to see but thankfully they’ve scheduled it so you won’t have to worry about leaving to go somewhere else in the middle of someone’s gig. Performances include The xx, M83, Porter Robinson, Best Coast, Public Enemy, and Toro Y Moi to name a few.
The xx - Chained
Porter Robinson - Language (feat. DWNTWN)
M83 - Graveyard Girl
Toro Y Moi - Hey You (feat. Tyler, The Creator)
I can already see it, Allyson Baker and the Dirty Ghosts kicking off the weekend as the clock strikes noon, followed up by my BB Grimes a little later, and Tycho coming on just as the sun begins to set (good call schedulers). Just imagine, the soothing waves of the bay rolling in and the sun fading behind the backdrop of the illuminated SF sky as “A Walk” beams through the airwaves. I know right? (You just bought your ticket, congratulations).
Grimes - Vanessa
Tycho - Hours
SBTRKT - Pharoahs
Girl Talk - Bounce That
By this point, if you haven’t already been put into a blissful trance that you can’t see yourself awakening from any time soon and have the urge to rage a little face, well you’re in luck because up next you have the dynamic electro-rock sounds of The Presets only to be ensued by one of my personal favorites in SBTRKT, followed by Girl Talk which is sure to send you in a dizzy mess through the rest of the night and leave you ready to do it all over again tomorrow (Which arguably proposes an even more amazing range of performances).
Youth Lagoon - Cannons
Joanna Newsom - The Book Of Right On
Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control
The xx - Sunset
Sunday’s sets include the dreamy sounds of Youth Lagoon, a performance by dainty vocalist Joanna Newsom, as well as a sure to be high energy display from the three-part group Gossip. AND, closing the night in what more of a wondrous way, we have The xx, fresh off their latest album Coexist and is sure to be one of the most spectacular spectacles (say that five times fast) of the weekend. You do not wanna miss out on this one.
